Star Trek
Star Trek was a sciencefiction tv-show in it's origins, created by Gene Roddenberry, which was aired between 1966 and 1969.
But the success was bigger than expected, and the Star Trek universe grew out to be a successful media franchise with five television shows, an animated series, no less than thirteen movies, dozens of video games and hundreds of books, comics, manuals and encyclopedias.
Between 1998 and 2008 in Las Vegas, you could visit the Star Trek Amusement Park, aptly named Star Trek: The Experience.
There are as well still regular Star Trek conventions, which are large conventions for the fans named "Trekkies", and every so often there are actors from the series present.
Roddenberry envisioned an Utopic future, where a united Earth has solved most complex problems for itself.
With inventions like synthetic replicates and warp-speed technology humanity has, in co-operation with alien civilizations, founded an organization of worlds, namely The United Federation of Planets.
The stories in the Star Trek media mostly follow the officers and civilians in service of Starfleet, a military research branch from the Federation, which with it's starfleet serves diplomatic and research issues, and is by itself as well their armed force.
