The Hulk actually is Dr. Robert Bruce Banner, a nuclear physicist. Bruce is a genius. When he was but a child, he was abused by his father, which gave him a split personality.
He himself always was rather shy, and maybe a little bit of a nerd (In example, he owned ten identical suits, so he should never have to waste time picking out clothing).
One day, he was working on a new superweapon, the Gammabomb; a nuclear bomb with high gamma-radiation.
The day the bomb would be tested, Robert noticed a teenager, Rick Jones, running about the testing area due to a bet he made.
Banner rescued Rick before the bomb went off, but his own body was exposed to high doses of gamma-radiation. Rick brought Bruce to the hospital, where he for the first time transformed into his alter ego, the Hulk.
The Hulk has multiple versions. The most known is the Savage Hulk. The Savage Hulk is green, larger than the ordinary man and heavily muscled. Most clothes are too small for him, so they rip apart when Bruce changes into the Hulk. Only his purple pants stay partly intact. The Savage Hulk is extraordinarily strong, but not quite as intelligent. He has the average intelligence of a young child and no self control at all. This Hulk usually references to himself in the third person, mostly telling people he wants to be left alone. And when he is left alone, he hurts nothing or no one.
